In an exclusive interview with 'L'Equipe', Milan midfielder Youssouf Fofana discussed his change in role under the guidance of Massimiliano Allegri and his hopes of participating in the upcoming World Cup.

Speaking about his new position on the pitch, Fofana explained how his approach to the game has changed compared to the past: "I no longer see the pitch from the same angle, and I don't have the same reference points. Before, when I played in front of the defence, I knew I had two teammates behind me: one diagonally to the right and one to the left. Even without looking, I could serve the ball into that area."

The midfielder described the new tactical demands: "Now everything is different. I play as a right-sided midfielder. When we don't have the ball, I'm very advanced, almost like a forward. When we possess it, I position myself between the lines. Before, I was the one going to look for those players."

Fofana also spoke about the possibility of being called up by France for the upcoming World Cup: "Playing in a World Cup would be a dream. Yes, I want to go, but I'll have to get a visa. At first, I suffered from not being called up and wondered why. Then I thought: there are many strong players in my role. I need to perform well with my club first."

The Rossoneri midfielder expressed some regret over the lack of consideration in national team media debates. "I'm a Milan player, some people see that, but in the medium term, I'm not considered in discussions about who might or might not go to the World Cup. And that's a shame."

Finally, discussing his relationship with national team coach Didier Deschamps, Fofana added: "I don't know if I have the right to call him and ask why I'm no longer called up. I respect his decisions, but it would be interesting to speak with him in person if the opportunity arises. I'm not a fatalist: I have a French passport, I'm eligible for selection, and I really want to go to the World Cup. To believe in it, I need to finish the season better than I started it."
